Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore navigation experiences of navigators, a supervisor, and an agency staff who have been involved in navigation program to increase breast cancer screening in community health care center based on the paradigm of context, progress, and result. A total of 5 individuals participated in different types of activities including in-depth interviews, focus group, participation observation, and data collection. Findings demonstrated that 6, 2, and 4 themes have been derived from navigator, supervisor, and agency staff, respectively. Practical findings derived from themes indicate that navigators came to acknowledge the importance of navigator roles, acting in community health center with individuals who are required to get screened after participating as a navigator without conscious thought. A supervisor felt that the role of navigator needs to be established through the enhancement of capacities. A staff agency wished to establish navigation program in the future, although he mentioned ambivalent thoughts about the navigation program, beginning a new journey. This study is the first investigation to explore navigation experiences to increase breast cancer screening. The current study will be utilized as basic data for establishing Korean navigation program.
